bridging the gaps

Bridging the Gaps’ mission is to promote a healthier Rochester community by reducing substance abuse and underage drinking by our youth through increased collaborative prevention, intervention and treatment efforts.  The Coalition has been around since 2005 and works to bring together parents, youth and community members who are vested in reducing youth substance use and changing the community culture.

We have two main goals as a coalition.

Our first goal is to establish and strengthen collaboration among diverse community partners to support coalition efforts to prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth. We do this by engaging members in bridging the gaps for substance abuse prevention and intervention through dialogue, activities and education.

Our second goal is to reduce substance abuse, over time, by addressing factors that increase the risk of substance abuse and promote the factors that minimize risk of substance abuse. To reach this goal we are working with the community to offer substance free programming and with the schools to increase prevention efforts. Additionally we educate youth, parents and the community on the issue of substance abuse and risk factors for substance use.

The coalition meets the second Tuesday of each month from 11- 1 PM at the Rochester Police Department (2nd floor).  All are welcome.
